Here’s a detailed look at your journey through 5,000 years of history:
Morning (8:00 AM): You will be picked up from your Cairo/Giza hotel. Your first stop is the Giza Plateau. You will stand before the Great Pyramid of Khufu, explore the Pyramid of Khafre, and learn the mysteries of the Great Sphinx and Valley Temple.
Late Morning: You will drive to Saqqara. You will explore the Step Pyramid Complex of King Djoser, the world’s oldest stone monument, designed by the genius Imhotep. You will also enter the Teti Pyramid and see beautifully decorated mastaba tombs.
Afternoon: You will enjoy a included traditional Egyptian lunch at a local restaurant. Then, you will proceed to the open-air museum at Memphis, the ancient capital, to see the colossal statue of Ramses II and the alabaster Sphinx.
Late Afternoon: After a day of incredible discoveries, you will be driven back to your hotel.
Not at all! While it's a full day, our itinerary is carefully paced and planned for efficiency. The proximity of the sites (Giza, Saqqara, and Memphis are all within about 30 km) makes it perfectly feasible and incredibly rewarding.
The Giza Pyramids (c. 2580–2560 BC) represent the peak of pyramid construction with their smooth-sided, perfectly angled structures. Saqqara's Step Pyramid (c. 2650 BC) is older and shows the revolutionary first attempt, creating a "stairway to heaven" with six stacked mastabas. Seeing both shows the evolution of engineering.
This is a moderately intensive walking tour. The Giza Plateau and Saqqara necropolis are both extensive archaeological sites with some uneven terrain. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and sunscreen are essential.
Entrance to the interior of the Great Pyramid at Giza requires a separate, limited-availability ticket that can be purchased on-site. Our tour includes entry to the Teti Pyramid at Saqqara, which is a fantastic and often less-crowded alternative.
Memphis was the political and administrative capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom when the pyramids were built. While mostly in ruins today, its open-air museum houses incredible artifacts that give you a sense of the city's power and grandeur, completing the story of the pyramid-building era.
